White House Exhibition Opens on November 17
The White House Exhibition, the Kennedy Library's special exhibit during construction of new permanent museum exhibits, will open to the public on Tuesday, November 17. It will be on display in the Pavilion.
The exhibit is a large, detailed model of the White House which took over twenty-five years to design and construct. The 50-foot by 25-foot replica includes hand-carved furniture, tiny working televisions and hundreds of lights illuminating the chandeliers.
While on exhibit earlier this year at the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of American History, the replica attracted enormous public and media attention. As part of a feature on the bicentennial of the
White House, the model was featured on CBS' "Sunday Morning" in mid-October. In conjunction with the White House Exhibition, special educational programs are being scheduled so that 1993 will offer visitors many opportunities to learn about this treasured historical building.
Friends of the Kennedy Library will have a unique opportunity to enjoy "An Evening at the White House" during two members-only receptions.
Members nights, which are open to Friends and their families, will be held on Monday, November 30 and Wednesday, December 2 between 6:00 and 8:00 pm.
Families attending these opening receptions will be given a tour of the exhibition.
